Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time to visit Cusco?

The best time to visit Cusco is during the dry season (April to October). During this period, the weather is more stable with minimal rain, which is ideal for outdoor tours and visiting archaeological sites.

Will altitude sickness affect me during the trip?

Cusco is located at 3,400 m (11,150 ft). Most travelers feel some effects of altitude. To minimize discomfort:

  • Rest upon arrival.
  • Drink coca tea or stay hydrated.
  • Avoid heavy meals and alcohol the first day.

Machu Picchu is lower, so symptoms are usually milder there.

Can I visit Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain?

Yes, but you need an additional entrance ticket. Spots are limited and must be booked in advance. Both hikes offer amazing views but require good physical condition.

How do I get from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu?

You take a bus ride (30 minutes) included in the package. It goes directly from Aguas Calientes up to the entrance of Machu Picchu.

What should I do on a free day in Cusco?

On your free day, you can:

  • Visit museums such as the Inka Museum.
  • Explore San Pedro Market.
  • Try local Peruvian cuisine.
  • Walk around the main square and colonial streets.

What should I pack for this tour?

We recommend bringing:

  • Comfortable hiking shoes.
  • Warm layers for cold nights.
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen).
  • A light rain jacket (especially from November to March).
  • A reusable water bottle.

Is travel insurance required?

While not mandatory, we strongly recommend travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and adventure activities, as you will be in high-altitude and remote areas.

Are meals included during the tours?

Yes, meals are included in most full-day tours such as the Sacred Valley, Humantay Lake, and Rainbow Mountain. Lunch in Aguas Calientes is optional (USD 25.00).

Do I need a visa to travel to Peru?

Most travelers from the US, Europe, and many other countries do not need a visa for tourist visits up to 90 days. Check with the Peruvian consulate in your country before traveling.

Is this package suitable for children or older travelers?

Yes, the itinerary can be adapted. However, tours like Rainbow Mountain and Humantay Lake involve challenging hikes. Families with children or seniors may prefer to enjoy alternative experiences in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.

What kind of accommodations are included?

The package includes one-night stay in Aguas Calientes. Hotel nights in Cusco are not included, but we can help you choose from boutique, premium, or luxury hotels according to your preference.

Are the guides bilingual?

Yes, all our professional guides speak English and Spanish. Some are also fluent in Quechua, the language of the Incas, which adds cultural richness to the tours.

What is the level of difficulty for the hikes?

  • Humantay Lake: Moderate, about 2 hours uphill.
  • Rainbow Mountain: Moderate to challenging, depending on your fitness and acclimatization.
  • Machu Picchu main tour: Easy to moderate, with stone steps.

Can I customize the itinerary?

Yes. Peruvian Luxe specializes in tailor-made experiences. You can add extra days in Cusco, visit the Amazon rainforest, or include Lima, Arequipa, or Lake Titicaca.

How far in advance should I book this package?

We recommend booking at least 2–3 months in advance, especially for the high season (June–August), as train tickets and entrance tickets to Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu sell out quickly.
