The tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Cusco between 3:30 to 4:00 a.m., followed by a drive to the town of Cusipata, a journey of approximately 2 hours. Upon arrival, we will enjoy an energizing breakfast and have a short break to buy drinks, snacks, and use the restroom. We will then continue for 1 more hour until we reach the starting point of the hike, the community of Chillihuani (around 4,500 meters above sea level).
After a briefing and safety recommendations from our guide, we will begin the hike toward Rainbow Mountain. The ascent is gradual and takes about 2 hours. Along the way, travelers can admire a wide variety of fauna such as alpacas, llamas, as well as birds, lagoons, valleys, streams, and snow-capped peaks.
After walking approximately 3 kilometers, we will reach the Rainbow Mountain, a unique place where nature has created a colorful landscape resembling a giant rainbow. Here, we’ll receive a detailed explanation about the mountain’s formation and the geological process behind its colors. There will be free time for photos and to enjoy the surroundings. We’ll then return to Cusipata for lunch before heading back to Cusco, finishing the tour around 5:00 p.m.
